Clerical and Office

Even the smallest offices can have a negative impact on the environment if lighting, hot water and office supplies are overused. Some 60 per cent of all energy use in Australia’s capital city CBDs is attributed to unnecessary energy use in offices, with office workers accounting for at least half this energy use.

Going green at the office

Little things like zip boil hot water systems, outdated computer screens, and lights left on at night all deliver a hefty cost to the environment. If all of Australia’s office tenants were to adopt some simple changes, CO2 emission reductions per annum would be the equivalent of taking 200,000 cars off the road.

Larger businesses may have a heavier office space footprint, but they are more likely to sign up to programs like CitySwitch, a national initiative that aims to reduce resource use in capital city offices by the year 2012. If you're not an industry leader, then, you need to think about getting on board before your workplace becomes old fashioned and ultimately, expensive and outdated.

Office staff who are involved in cleaner work practices are more engaged with their workplace and their jobs, and a greener work environment is more productive and enjoyable, as well as cheaper.
